Pokemon Go has become a global craze and according to some reports it has taken over twitter in US.
Pokemon Go is a spin-off of the long-running Pokemon series, in which player’s capture and battle the pocket monster in their quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world. So why this craze now? Unlike in earlier videogames, players in this game move around the real world looking for Pokemon to capture.
Pokemon Go is such a craze among users that it is leading to public safety. There have been incidents where people have fallen from 90 ft to cars being rammed behind when driver exited to catch a Pokemon.
The game is not just for solo players. Some locations have become hubs of Pokemon activity. New York’s Central Park, for instance, has been bustling not just with the usual crowds of sightseers but with players checking their phones for nearby Pokemon.
We all knew that Augmented Reality will be next big thing but it will beat social media in such a short span of time and the craze was not thought of.
Educators worldwide should look closely at the potential augmented reality has, to grab the user’s attention.
Imagine students moving around in campus and knowledge in form of nugget pops up, they do not study solo they can study in group as well. The assessment can be made fun wherein they could be available at specific areas example labs, library etc.
Students love real life scenarios and it will be great if they can study in real life environment. Example if they need to study about Automobiles then why not let them go to a nearby parking lot or an automobile retail/manufacturer? If they have to learn History take them to a Museum, when we need to teach them environment let them go outside the four walls of the classroom. They will learn best when they are in real world.
We need to think outside the box and observe the changing behaviors of our students and give them something which is addictive and makes learning fun.
